Company History
TThe Swan Agency Sotheby’s International Realty has a long history of proven
market experience and dominance. Here’s a look back on how we’ve grown from
a single office in Bar Harbor to a strong, statewide presence:
Established on April 1st, 1975 by Cary and June Swan, The Swan Agency handled
both insurance and real estate sales. After working in the family business, Kim
Swan obtained her real estate license and in 1994, purchased the real estate side of
the company, and The Swan Agency – Real Estate was born.
The successful mission to affiliate the best brokers and administrative staff in the
business resulted in residential and commercial sales growing at an impressive
rate in the Bar Harbor office. A second component was added to The Swan
Agency – Real Estate in 1995, Maine’s Lodging Brokerage. The niche market of
inns/bed and breakfasts sales on Mount Desert Island was broadened to represent
the properties throughout the entire state of Maine.
In an effort to broaden their market share across Mount Desert Island, it became
apparent that a branch office in Northeast Harbor. The Northeast Harbor office
opened its doors in July 2004, to meet increasing demands.
In May of 2006, The Swan Agency announced its affiliation with Sotheby’s International Realty®. The partnership has proven to be a wonderful business
decision as our clients are now able to enjoy national and international exposure
for their properties. The top shelf service exemplified by Sotheby’s is a benefit
to all clients as their property on sothebysrealty.com, a dynamic international
website.
To respond to the fast growing Blue Hill clientele, the Blue Hill office was
opened in June of 2007, serving the Blue Hill Peninsula and the Downeast
regions. In 2010, The Swan Agency Sotheby’s International Realty formed the
Greater Portland Group, to better represent properties in Kennebunkport, Cape
Elizabeth, Greater Portland, Mid-Coast area and beyond.
Today, The Swan Agency Sotheby’s International Realty is a leader in real estate
sales throughout the state of Maine. Our brokers are experts in their markets, and
offers clients unparalleled service.
