EXCITEMENT BUILDS FOR BROADWAY ON THE ISLE SHOW AT CRITERION THEATRE AND ARTS CENTER
June 30th (Bar Harbor) - The cast for the upcoming Broadway on the Isle show at the Criterion Theatre and Arts Center is being finalized. Seventeen different performers and acts shared their talent with judges at a casting call on June 21st at the Theatre. Local accompanist Bob Bahr donated his time to provide back up for the try outs. Director Ellen Domingos was joined by George Demas and Richard Robinson in the judges chairs. Local talent will join professionals in this Broadway Review, a fundraiser for the Criterion Theatre and Arts Center campaign to save the Theatre, sponsored by The Swan Agency Sotheby's International Realty.
Jasmine Ireland has signed on as a performer and has agreed to help with choreographing the group performances. Domingos will work with Ireland and the entire cast to work ensemble pieces into the show. Rehearsals begin next weekend and will continue until the week of the show when the cast will practice every day leading up to Thursday, August 7th at 8:00 PM.
Song choices are also being finalized with specific performers in mind and will range from favorites from Camelot to Rent and from West Side Story to Les Miserables. Local celebrity, Herb Mitchell is slated to reprise a well loved performance from Fiddler on the Roof as well as sharing a sneak peek of a new musical he is working on. Opera singer, John McVeigh, will headline the show with Domingos, as well as work with performers during the week leading up to Broadway on the Isle.
The event continues to unfold. Tickets will be for sale starting July 7 and will be available at the Criterion Theatre, The Swan Agency Sotheby's International Realty in Bar Harbor and Pomegranate Style in Northeast Harbor. For more information please email broadway@swanagency.com.
