April Cough McGuire

April has lived on Mount Desert Island for most of her life; growing up
in Hulls Cove and now residing in Bar Harbor. After graduating from
Mount Desert Island High School in 1990, April went out to the
midwest to study saxophone, voice and music education at Michigan
State University. After graduating, April spent a few years living
outside of Boston before returning to Maine to teach music at the
Beech Hill school in Otis. April changed gears in 1999 to devote her
attention to staying home with her three children and made the [...]

April has lived on Mount Desert Island for most of her life; growing up
in Hulls Cove and now residing in Bar Harbor. After graduating from
Mount Desert Island High School in 1990, April went out to the
midwest to study saxophone, voice and music education at Michigan
State University. After graduating, April spent a few years living
outside of Boston before returning to Maine to teach music at the
Beech Hill school in Otis. April changed gears in 1999 to devote her
attention to staying home with her three children and made the move
to York, Maine. Missing all that MDI and Acadia National Park has to
offer, she moved back to Bar Harbor in 2012. The sense of
community and down to earth values that exist here on the island
spurred her decision to return and raise her three kids in Bar Harbor.
(Not to mention the fact that most of April’s family lives on the island!)

In addition, the beautiful carriage roads and trails, that were not
appreciated enough in her youth, became very attractive. Running,
walking, and hiking in Acadia are a few favorite activities that April
enjoys on the daily. April started working at Conners Emerson School
in Bar Harbor in 2013, working as an Education Technician as well as
teaching music. Teaching an adaptive music class for younger
students, as well as building relationships with 7th and 8th grade
students in special education have been extremely rewarding aspects
of her job. April enjoys singing and playing with other local musicians
as well as teaching private music lessons out of her home in Bar
Harbor, and is currently serving as a new board member at the YWCA. April is a new member of the Swan Agency team, joining in
May of 2022 and looks forward to building more relationships while
adventuring down this new career path.
